How heavy a boat can the ramp handle?
A: Limit the load to 90 pounds or less and your Ramp will last a long time.
How long are the poles?
A: The Ramp when bundled is just under 36 inches. When assembled each pole is ten feet in length.
What is the ramp made of?
A: The Ramp is made of fiberglass poles to accommodate the weight of the load and still be light enough that the bundle is easy to carry.
Do I need to worry about maintenance on the Ramp?
A: We recommend you wash it as you do your boards, canoes, and kayaks before you put it away. It is a good idea to let it air dry or towel it dry so you don't have a mildew problem develop.
What does the Ramp weigh?
A: The shipping weight is just over ten pounds.
Can I use the Ramp to load other things on my roof rack?
A: Sure, however, keep in mind that the two poles form the Ramp and lifting bicycles and other irregularly shaped items will not work well. The Ramp works with boards, and boats because of the symmetry and smooth surfaces of the Ramp and the kayak or other water craft. It also works well mounting cargo boxes that go on roof racks.
Why is the Ramp so long?
A: The gradual incline gives you more mechanical advantage. We tested both longer and shorter Ramps in settling on our design. Ten feet seems best. Obviously the angle of the ramp depends on the heights of the vehicle and how flat an area the poles are resting on.
Can I use the poles and leave out a section to shorten the Ramp?
A: You bet, if you have a short vehicle, you can remove one of the middle sections when assembling and just use three sections for each Ramp pole.
Why are the straps so long and have a twist?
A: The hook and Loop straps are long so with a cold or gloved hand you can easily tread it through the D-ring to fasten the sections of the pole. The strap needs a twist to be secured and the twist creates a hoop for you to get a figure in when you want to disconnect the sections.
Can I use the Ramp on both sides of the vehicle?
A: Yes, the one strap fastener allows us to quickly move the Ramp from one side to the other. Even if you have "J Hooks" on one side and rollers on the other. The easy strap makes it quick. In fact, if you are ferrying boats with a group of vehicles you can use the one Ramp for all the vehicles. That said... we would like everyone to own one of their own. Duh!
